State Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi will hold an investigatory hearing Oct. 21 in San Diego on the issue of underinsurance.

Garamendi's office said subjects to be covered are methods used by insurers to determine replacement cost for homes, the agent's role in replacement cost evaluation, documentation and disclosure, the consumer's role in determining replacement cost, insurer underwriting guidelines, insurer re-underwriting programs and inflation factors and home inspections.

The event will be from 1 to 5 p.m. and 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the San Diego County Water Authority board room, 4677 Overland Ave., in Kearny Mesa.
